Agenda
From 2026 through to Spring 2027, a sequence of small-scale, intimate gatherings will unfold both online and on site at our partnering institutions. These encounters are conceived as regenerative laboratories: spaces for knowledge exchange, collective reflection and situated practice. Building on the Compos(t)ing symposium held at the Nieuwe Instituut in April 2025, the gatherings take composting not only as a material process, but as a method for cultural work; one that values accumulation, decay, care and transformation over extraction and linear production.
Each host institution will shape the focus of its gathering, responding to its local ecologies, institutional conditions and communities of practice. Attention will be given to more-than-human temporalities, restore and repair, institutional responsibility, and the cultivation of fertile grounds for future practice. Rather than aiming for finished outcomes and serving as our Living Archive, these communal moments prioritise process, reciprocity and learning-with.
In parallel, we are working towards a main event in April 2027: the Compos(t)ing Biennale. This main event will be composted from the discourses, questions and insights generated across the preceding gatherings. Its programme is an artwork in progress. It will emerge through what has been nurtured and transformed along the way, offering a regenerative model for convening that remains open, responsive and alive to ongoing change.
